Episode 65 – Bonfire Night ???

LISTEN to the podcast. READ the RnR Grammar. DO the quiz and…. ROCK ON!

‘Remember remember the 5th November’ we say in English… but why?! ? Listen to today’s show and find out! ? PLUS… we talk about BABY NAMES for Dan the Man ?, watching PORNOS with your Nan ?, confusion about QUEEN names ? aaaaand there is a ⚠️ SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️! Not to mention the RnR Vocabulary and Grammar…. you could describe this episode as ON FIRE baby! ????????

Here is today’s RnR vocabulary:

  • I’m changing the order of the podcast to keep you on your toes
  • I just thought I would mix it up a bit (the order of the show)
  • “Danielle the woman” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it (as Dan the Man)
  • You’d just lie down and take it wouldn’t you? (if the King didn’t change the law)
  • I think I made that one up (the quote of ‘every day is a school day’)
  • I’ll let you have your moment of limelight
  • Guy Fawkes took the rap
  • He grassed on his friends and they got killed too
  • We found some old videos in the LOFT
  • I was watching this with my Mum and my Nan

RnR Grammar

In the show I said:

“I’m about to make a fire”

We use the construction of “subject + to be + about to” A LOT in English, and it means “I will do it in the next few seconds / minutes”.

For example, we could say the following:

“It’s about to rain”

“I’m about to punch him”

“They’re about to close the restaurant”

It is a very EASY construction to learn (for meaning and grammar), but not many students use it, so ADD it to your discourse and sound more RnR when you speak! ?

When you have listened to the podcast and read the above, then you’re ready for the quiz below! ?

Hi Martin, hi Dan! You’re doing a great job making your podcast. I learnt about you thanks to Luke Thompson and now you’re my number two favorite podcast after Luke’s English. Shame there’s so little feedback in the comment section, so I’m leaving my comment here to support you guys and say: I’m really happy to learn more English from you, keep going.

Hi Elena! I’m very sorry for the long delay, I only login to the website about once a week to upload new content, as it’s very difficult for me to find time during the week as I work full time. I respond to Facebook and Instagram much quicker (as I can access them on my phone, whilst comments on the website I need to use the computer), so if you write to me there I promise I will respond faster! Sorry again and thanks for listening! 🙂

Hi Martin & Man, you propose a members club with activities to learn more English based on your podcasts. I think it’s a good idea, maybe it’s depend the time people will have to join that group!
    Take care.

    • Martman99 says:

Hi Manolito! Thanks, I’m glad you are interested in the idea, I think we will do something different now, something less expensive and less work. If you have any ideas, please let us know! 🙂
