Episode 99 – Life’s a Beach 🏖️

LISTEN to the podcast. READ the RnR Grammar. DO the quiz and…. ROCK ON!

It’s summer baby so we talk about that place we all love… the BEACH! ⛱ Men wearing socks AND sandals 🤢, getting sun burnt in PRIVATE places ☀, DOGS running around 🐕 and lots more! So much RnR vocab it’s scary – one more episode to go then it’s 100 baby, but in the meantime…. just keeeeeep on ROCKin’! 💣💣💣

The RnR vocab that you will learn in today’s show:

  • I don’t know if you heard Clarification Charlie slagging you off
  • I don’t want beef between 2 podcasters
  • I’ll rise above it
  • Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in
  • I thought we could talk about beach attire
  • My Dad is a fan of sandals and socks… oh that is a stinker!
  • I wouldn’t want to be seen dead with you
  • People like to wear speedos / swimming trunks
  • Just a quick little glance
  • There can be some extra pubic hair coming out
  • I’m the opposite end of the spectrum
  • When you get people selling stuff at the beach you have to haggle
  • Applying the sunscreen to my cock and balls
  • That’s not a rule that you adhere to
  • Dogs at the beach seems a bit odd
  • We went to a really secluded beach
  • Just as he was letting the dog loose
  • I think he was doing that just to piss you off
  • That is just not on

RnR Grammar

In today’s show I said to Boom Boom:

“If I had to choose between wearing speedos or going naked, I would choose going naked”

A nice simple second conditional here, but what would be the negative of this sentence?

Here are two options:

  1. If I hadn’t choose…
  2. If I didn’t have to choose….

And the correct answer is….. number 2! Remember that when the verb ‘have’ is in the past and negative, we say “didn’t have” and NOT “hadn’t”.

We only use “hadn’t” when it’s an AUXILIARY verb, for example “I hadn’t been to Scotland before I was 20”.

Sounds like a simple thing, but LOTS of people make this mistakes, so don’t be one of them people, ROCK people with your RnR Grammar! 👊

When you have listened to the podcast and read the above, then you’re ready for the quiz below! 👊

Good luck!

Hello Martin, Hello Charlie, Cannon and Dan
I adore your podcast. It’s so refreshing and funny. The best podcast for learning English and I’ve listened to a bunch of them over the years. It has stand-up quality to it.
Recently I noticed that I tend to remember the vocabulary from your podcast with the least effort. It must be cause of your outstanding teaching abilities, the meaningful context and entertaining content you’re so altruisticly sharing with us.
Your co-hosts, Charlie and Cannon, are loveable. I can’t help but still miss Dan’s presence on the podcast. What a pity, what a deep loss, he had to quit.
All the best and big thanks to all of you.

Anyway, thank you so much for it – we really appreciate receiving these kind of messages so thank you for taking the time to do so! Yes it’s a pity about Dan, hopefully one day he will come back! Thanks again for your message and keep on rockin’! 😉
